This Memorial Day, ACSD would like to pay tribute to the heroes who gave everything for our nation. Their courage and sacrifice will always be remembered.
Each year, the Algona CSD awards Golden Apples to staff members with 25 years of service. This year, we had 8 Golden Apple Awards recipients (from L to R): Joe Carter, Mike Elsbecker, Brian Morgan, Noel McLaughlin, Brenda Geitzenauer, Kim Traub, Zoe Heider, and Marie Berke.
Congratulations to Jennifer Christensen for being selected as the Class of '79 Teacher of the Year! She has been nominated for this award multiple times and ACSD is proud of her dedication to the students she has taught over the years. A well deserved honor!
Another "Be the Change" project at Lucia Wallace included Mrs. Carroll’s 4th grade class raising $100.31 to donate to Kossuth County Tails of Hope! 😊🎉👏🏼 This is a volunteer and donation run rescue just West of Algona! Tails of Hope was so excited to receive this donation!
Mrs. Christensen's class has been working with their business partner, Forge and Build (formerly North Iowa Lumber), for 12 years and their motto is, "Make the World a Better Place." They have been making birdhouses with the high school construction class for the same number of years and each year find a charity to donate to. After SaulPaul's "Be the Change" day, the students created a list of charities and voted. Hilah's Closet and the Ronald McDonald House were the winners. This year's class had a student that stayed at the Ronald McDonald house and the monetary donation and all of the pop tabs we have collected will be delivered there this summer.
Dr. Owen, Emmy, Josie and Noelle and Wendy Olmstead came to visit to accept the donation to Hilah's Closet today. Emmy was a past student of Mrs. Christensen and Dr. Owen is known by many in the class since he provides medical care for them. They raised a total of $557!
Mrs. Sheryl Carroll's class raised $439.45 for the Kossuth County Food Pantry on May 17th at the Bullpup Relays serving lemonade. Henry Ricke from the Food Pantry collected the money. He said the students raised enough money to feed 4 families in Kossuth County!
Congratulations to our RISE Stars! These students show our core values of Respect, Integrity, Students First, and Excellence every day.
Thanks for a great year from everyone at ACSD!
