Nominations Accepted for Teaching Award
For Release (Algona, IA –March 30, 2023) – Nominations are currently being accepted for the annual AHS Class of 1979 Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award is designed to recognize the outstanding contributions of a teacher, either in a single academic year or over a career including developing new programs, personally motivating students, achieving greater professional standing and going above and beyond the job of teaching.
Eligible nominees must be currently teaching (kindergarten through grade twelve) in the Algona Community School District. Nominations can be made by teachers, students, alumni and community members.
Nomination forms are available online on the school website (http://www.algona.k12.ia.us) in two forms --electronic or print. To nominate a teacher, please submit the name, school, grade, and position/specialty of the nominee as well as a brief description of his/her accomplishments. Please include the name and relationship (student, parent, alumni, etc) of the person making the nomination.
Send paper nominations to “Class of ’79 Award,” Algona Community School Foundation, P.O. Box 129, Algona, IA 50511. Nominations will be accepted through April 14, 2023.
A committee will make the selection, and the award will be announced in May. The award includes an engraved recognition and $200. Established in 2002, past award recipients include Liz Rosonke, Jeanette Walker, Dale Teeter, Diane Goodman, Bill Fjetland, Francis Bollinger, Blair and Mandy Redenius, Brian Connick, Karie Young, Marilyn Gale, Drew Severson, Brenda Bormann, Mary Kae Hanson, Sandra Mills, Lori Ludwig, Steve Young, Kurt Kissinger, Sheryl Carroll, Ron Swalve, Phil Stein, Mindi Spear, and Lisa Cassens. This award is sponsored by the Algona High School Class of 1979 through the Algona Community School Foundation.
