This month, our school wide theme is our school as a welcoming place where every student feels like he or she belongs. In our morning announcements, we’ll be reminding students to welcome others and act and speak in safe, respectful, and responsible ways. In addition we’ll be reminding students of our school rules. We’ll also begin teaching the Second Step program, which includes lessons that support these behaviors. Support your child at home in welcoming others and acting and speaking in safe, respectful, and responsible ways. Please tell your child’s teacher if you have questions about specific ways you can help your child with these behaviors at home. Yours in Education, Mr. Sudol

Home Football Game Expectations We are very excited for the home opening game this Friday night at 7:00 p.m. We hope you will come to the game to cheer the Bulldogs to a VICTORY! Below please find our expectations for all home football games this year. If you are coming to the game, you are coming to watch the game and cheer for the Bulldogs. Kindergarten through 4th Grade Elementary students coming to the game must be supervised and in close proximity of a parent/adult supervisor. Please be very respectful during the National Anthem. You need to stand quietly during the playing and remember to remove your caps. Show good sportsmanship (no booing). Students will not be playing football or other games while attending football games. Remember, you are there to watch the game. The Bulldogs will appreciate having all of us in the stands cheering them to victory. Go Bulldogs!!

Bertha Godfrey & Bryant Families, Our goal at Bertha Godfrey & Bryant Elementary is to create a school climate that is a safe and joyful learning environment. This letter will outline the restorative approach we will use to create this culture. The aim of the restorative approach is to manage conflict by repairing harm and building relationships. For effective teaching and learning to take place, we believe that students and staff should feel both emotionally and physically safe. Building relationships and repairing harm that has been caused is at the heart of our work. The main tool in the restorative approach is the Restorative Conversation. In school we use 5 big questions during these conversations: 1. What happened? 2. What were you thinking about at the time? 3. What were you feeling? What are you feeling now? 4. Who has been affected? 5. What needs to happen to make things fair and better? The conversations show that actions have consequences to how people are feeling which has an influence on how they are able to learn. Discussing these will encourage people to accept responsibility and repair relationships. There may be times when the harm that has been caused results in a student being separated from their class or learning environment. If a student intentionally causes harm to another student or staff member, that student will be separated from those people until the harm is repaired. This could be in the form of an out of school suspension, in school suspension or time out of their classroom. If a student has an out of school suspension, a parent/guardian is required to participate in a re-entry meeting before the student returns to school. During this meeting we will set up a behavior contract and have a restorative conversation. Thank you for all your assistance in discussing this issue with your child and in helping to create a positive school environment for everyone. Yours in Education, Brad Sudol, Principal

Dear Parent/Guardian(s): South side of Bryant Building (front of building): The front of the school will be a pick-up and drop-off area. Please remain in your vehicle for this purpose. If you need to get out of your vehicle, then you will need to find a parking spot. Parking will be available on the opposite side of the street. There will not be any dropping off of students on the north side (backside of school by the playground) of the school, because the buses will be using that route when shuttling between schools. West Side of Bryant: The buses will unload and load at the designated area. There will be no parking in this area at any time. If you have any questions please call the Bryant office (515) 295-7773. Thank you for your help with this change. Yours in Education, Mr. Sudol
