The Algona members of Model U.N. traveled to Des Moines on November second and third for the Iowa Youth Symposium. The group convened at NIACC earlier this fall for the Central Iowa Regional. Delegates and alternates chosen at the NIACC conference were Tora Solbach, Riker Brindley, Flynn McCann, Joseph Struecker, Faith Huber, and Paige Vileta. The members listed prior got to go a day before for a pre-plenary day spent at the Capitol building to discuss and plan for the conference the next day.
All members of AHS’s Model U.N. spent the next day at the Capitol building, discussing, planning, and attempting to compromise with schools from around the state. They started off their day by heading to the Iowa House of Representatives’ chamber. Then they went to separate rooms based on their respective committees: political, economic, social, and science, and discussed and formulated preliminary and actuating amendments to create a communal resolution on their topic. Delegate Paige Vileta says, ”I had a great time. Mr. Stein is seriously stupendous.”
Unfortunately, no members from Algona were selected as outstanding delegates this year, but they had fun regardless. Algona Model U.N. is now done temporarily until they reconvene for the spring season.
