Joe Taylor 2022

Joe Taylor is a new teacher here at Algona High School. He currently teaches high school special education and high school skills center. He is married and has two kids, one is two and a half while the other is six months old. He is originally from southeast Minnesota and went to high school in Houston, Minnesota. He’s been living in Iowa City since 2008. He went to college at Luther College and majored in education. He graduated from high school in 2004 and graduated from college in 2008.

He chose to work at Algona because his wife is originally from the area. They wanted to get closer to their family. Out of all of the school districts, Mr. Taylor wanted his children to go through the Algona School District. He says that the community of Algona has been very welcoming and he’s looking forward to exploring what the town has to offer.

Mr. Taylor began considering teaching around halfway through college. Before then he wasn’t exactly sure what he would do. His career options were pretty open.

In his classes at AHS, he works with students to increase their skills to prepare them for general education classes and their future. Although he has never taught at the high school level before, he has taught for 13 years before.

In his free time Mr. Taylor enjoys going to eat at restaurants. Him and his wife love trying new places and new foods. He also enjoys going to parks and trails with his kids. After a long day, he likes to watch movies with his family.

Mr. Taylor always looks for a good deed to do throughout the day. He tells his students to do the same. He believes that even the smallest good deed could change someone's whole day for the better.

Be sure to welcome Mr. Taylor into our school district with a friendly smile and wave!
