Silent Night

People from all over the United States came to Algona to shoot a movie about the P.O.W. Camp and tell what happened years upon years ago in this small town in Iowa.

From April 1944 to February 1946, Algona was the location of a large prisoner of war camp near the airport. Throughout the years, there were around 10,000 prisoners who went through the camp. Many of the prisoners worked to fill jobs in the community since many men were serving in WWII.

Actors to portray the roles came from Texas, Missouri, and many other places. A few of the cast members came into the new restaurant in town, IHOP, and shared all about their journey and how they are so excited to shoot this movie.

This movie was written many years ago and big Hollywood people wanted to take the story and change it. D.J. Perry, who is working on the production, didn’t want to have anything fake in it and wanted the whole movie to be nonfiction.

So far for the movie Silent Night, they have shot scenes uptown, downtown, and in many places. They have been staying at local hotels and in people’s homes in Algona so they can wake up and start filming.

One of the cast members stated that this movie will come out in theatres in 2022. Go take a look when it comes out and learn the background of the town of Algona! AHS student, Kiley Pearson, says, “I think it’s cool that our hometown will become a movie”
