On Monday, March 23rd, the Algona FFA chapter held their 74th annual FFA Banquet. The banquet started at 7:00 and was held in the Performing Arts Center. At this banquet, the FFA group recognized all of the fun activities they participated in throughout the year. They also presented awards and scholarships.
The night was conducted by current FFA officers: president, Elly Louwagie; vice president, Collin Casey; secretary, Taylor Kelly; treasurer, Jace Jennings; reporter, Molly Bormann; sentinel, Beth Anderson; and advisor, Mrs. Becker.
Elly Louwagie says, “It’s disappointing several events got cancelled this year, but at least we were able to go to some events as a chapter.”
The awards that were handed out include the Greenhand Degrees, Star Greenhands, Chapter Degrees, State Degrees, Chapter Member Awards, and Business Appreciation Awards. The FFA Alumni also handed out scholarships for the 2021 seniors and the underclassmen for the future.
To conclude the banquet, Mrs. Becker and the current officers installed the new office members. The new officers, for the 2021-2022 year, are Collin Casey as president, Molly Bormann as vice president, Beth Anderson as secretary, Conner Olmstead as treasurer, Joe Schumacher as reporter, sentinel is Nick Christensen, and junior advisor is Morgan Kelly.
After the awards ceremony, the alumni held their annual auction. During the banquet, they held a silent auction in the PAC lobby. After the conclusion of the FFA banquet, the larger items were auctioned off. Some of the items included soil sampling, fertilizer application, LP tank fills, lawn thatching, and many more! All of the money raised will be going towards scholarships for the 2022 graduating class.
