State Science Fair 2025

The Algona High School students in science fair had a very successful month. With Regional and State science fairs these past few weeks, the students received many awards. 

Senior, Emerson Waltz, received an award for being the International Science and Engineering Fair, ISEF, finalist as well as placing 1st in high school physical science at the Western Iowa Science and Engineering Fair, WISEF. At the State Science Technology Fair of Iowa, SSTFI, Waltz received 1st in high school physical science seminar, 3rd in high school chemistry, earned a seven year SSTFI presenter award, and got an outstanding research award. 

Sophomore, Abby Lampe, participated in SSTFI and received ISEF finalist, 1st in high school microbiology, and earned a $750 scholarship to Loras College. 

Freshman, Olivia Snider, received ISEF observer status and placed 4th in biological science at WISEF. At SSTFI, Snider received the 4-H STEM award.
Sophomore, Riley Schechinger, received 5th in high school physical science at WISEF and was named a Genius Olympiad participant at SSTFI. 

The junior and freshman team of Abbi and Natalee Reemtsma received 3rd place high school team at WISEF and $1000 scholarships to ISU, as well as $500 scholarships to Loras College at SSTFI. Natalee says, ā€œScience fair makes me look like a genius and I love it!ā€

Sophomore, Abigail Smith, received a $750 scholarship to Loras College at SSTFI. 

Sophomore, Cassidy Bierstedt, received honorable mention in high school earth and environmental science at SSTFI. 

Freshman, Kinsey Throne, received honorable mention in high school biochemistry. 

Waltz and Lampe will be competing at ISEF in May, along with Snider as a freshman observer. Waltz and Lampe will be competing against more than 1800 participants representing around 75 countries. Schechinger will be attending the Genius Olympiad in Rochester, New York, in June. The Genius Olympiad hosts about 200 participants from more than 80 different countries.

Overall all students who competed did very well!
