The 2025 track season is underway for the girls’ and boys’ teams. Practice started Monday, February 24th, for both squads. When asked about the upcoming season, sophomore, Mara Davis, says, “I am excited to run one last season with my sister.” On the other hand, returning letter winner and State qualifier, Jack Limbaugh, states, “Don’t ask me about running, I just run sprints.”
The boys’ team returns a lot of experience to their lineup. The Bulldogs have 24 letterwinners returning this season and multiple State qualifiers. Gavin Weber, a previous State qualifier in the 800 meter, 1600 meter, and the 3200 meter, returns for another successful season. On the throwing side, Max Nevitt is a stand out thrower for the Bulldogs. He was both a State qualifier and Drake Relay participant. School records were broken last season in both the 4x100 and the sprint medley relay. All members of the relays return, with the 4x100 runners being Will Weichert, Jack Limbaugh, Levi Walker, and Evan Allie. The sprint medley consisted of Weichert, Limbaugh, Ashton Moreno, and Allie. The Bulldogs also won the North Central Conference last season. This track season will be an exciting one for the boys.
The girls’ team had a solid season last year and will return a handful of talent to this year's team. The lady Bulldogs have numerous letterwinners returning this year, as well as 10 of their 11 State qualifiers from a year ago. Junior sprinter, Natalie Johnson, was a State qualifier in both the open 100 meter dash and anchored the 4x200 relay. In addition, a very experienced and three time qualifying 4x800 relay returns all of their runners. The relay included Mara Davis, Malyn Davis, Andi Jensen, and Macy Knapp. Qualifying for discus and placing fifth for the Bulldogs last year at State was sophomore Reagan Haynes. She ended her freshman year on a very high note and will continue to show her strength throughout this season. The Bulldog squad placed second in the NCC last season with very tough Conference competition.
The boys will open their season on Thursday, March 13th, at Lied Recreation Athletic Facility in Ames, Iowa. The Bulldogs will compete in 18 meets leading up to State, in hopes of returning many athletes back to the State meet in Des Moines. The girls open their season at the UNI-Dome on Tuesday, March 11th. The girls will also compete in 18 meets to lead up to the State track meet. With many of the State qualifiers returning from last year, senior and three time State qualifier, Andi Jensen, states, “This season will be the best one yet! We have all of our State qualifiers returning from last year, and we couldn't be more excited to show what Algona track and field’s got this season.” The upcoming track season will be a busy and exciting one for the Algona track and field athletes.
