The Lady Bulldogs wrapped up their regular season with games over Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Humboldt. The boys had a strange end to their regular season with their second to last game, against Iowa Falls-Alden, being cancelled due to weather.
On February 7th, the boys and girls hosted the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL. The girls’ team won over the tough Hampton team with a final score of 36-32. Leading scorer for the evening was Hayden Kuhlmann with 15 points.
The boys’ team won against Hampton with a final score of 70-58. Leading in assists was Jacob Burns and Evan Allie had six rebounds. Boys’ basketball player Cohen Thilges says, “You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.”
Tuesday, February 11th, was senior night for the boys and girls. They hosted the Humboldt Wildcats. The girls won against the Wildcats with a final score of 46-36. The girls’ team recognized four senior basketball players and two managers. Senior players Casey VanOtterloo, Lauren McLaughlin, Kayla Buscher, and Paige Schmitt were honored. Managers Olivia Thilges and Emerson Waltz were also honored for their four year commitment to helping the girls’ basketball team. Gabby Venteicher comments, “The seniors will be dearly missed.”
The boys’ basketball team had a tough loss against Humbodlt with a final score of 71-56. Leading scorer for the night was Ben Helmers with 28 points. Senior player Ben Helmers and senior statistician Ace Studer were both honored during senior night for their dedication to the boys’ basketball program. Senior cheerleader Breanna Ricklefs was also recognized for her years of dedication to the program.
On February 15th, the girls’ basketball team hosted Southeast Valley in their first postseason game. The Bulldogs entered this matchup with a record of 18-3 and the Jaguars entered this game with a record of 2-19. The Bulldogs won this matchup to advance to the second round, which will be tonight against Western Christian, who have a record of 8-15.
The boys traveled to Clear Lake on February 18th and came up short against a tough Lions team, 53-78. The boys’ next matchup is the Class 3A, Substate 2 Quarterfinals round of postseason play, which will be against Humboldt, at Humboldt, on February 24th.
