For science fair, students must pick a research project and make a poster to present their findings to judges.
The science fair competition season starts with Regionals at Buena Vista on March 15th. AHS has 11 projects going to Regionals and State. The participants are Emerson Waltz with a project titled Optimizing Catalysts for the Hydrogenolysis of Polyethylene. Brooklyn Adams’ project is Air Quality and Pollution within a School Environment. Abby Lampe’s project is Investigating Piperine as a Non-Synthetic Efflux Pump Inhibitor, to Restore Antibiotic Sensitivity in Staphylococcus Aureus. Abby Smith’s project is titled Casein Plastic. Riley Schechinger’s project is The Silent Threat: Arsenic and Other Contaminants in Well Water. Abbi Reemtsma and Natalee Reemtsma together are doing How Does Scent Affect the Learning of Neurodivergent Students? Olivia Snider’s project is titled Are You Wasting Your Money?: Types of Capsules’ Resistance to the Human Stomach. Cassidy Bierstedt’s project is Nitrates and Nitrites: The Presence of Both at Different Locations. Kinsey Throne has a project titled Sugar's Effect on the Growth Rate of E. Coli K-12 in Your Gut.
The same students and their projects are also going to attend the State Science & Technology Fair of Iowa, SSTFI, which is held in Ames at Iowa State University. The fair takes place on March 27th and 28th.
Science fair advisors are Mrs. Waltz and Mrs. Rasmussen.
The participants can place at State and get awards at both Regionals and State. Good luck to the Bulldogs in these upcoming competitions!
