Last week, the boys’ swim team went to Mason City High School to compete against the Mason City boys’ swim team. The final score for the meet was Bishop Garrigan 48 and Mason City with a score of 116. Algona boys on the team include juniors Axel Mortensen, Colin Roberts, and Owen Doocy. Seniors include Caydn Samp.
In the 50 yard freestyle, Roberts’ time was 25.44 and Mortensen had a time of 26.08. The 100 yard freestyle, Mortensen finished with a time of 59.28 and Doocy had a time of 1:19.94. In the 200 yard freestyle, Doocy had a time of 3:05.36. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Roberts had a time of 1:10.78. After the last meet, Alex Mortensen states what he thought, ”Talent will get you nowhere, but hard work gets you somewhere.”
Next week, on Saturday, February 8th, the boys will be back in Mason City High School to compete against Southeast Polk, Decorah, Fort Dodge, Cedar Falls, Dowling Catholic, Spencer, and Mason City in the District meet.
