On October 19th, AHS Quiz Bowl went to Bishop Garrigan for a tournament. Algona teams placed in 3rd and 4th, with the last round being that two Algona squads had to face each other.
Quiz Bowl’s next tournament, on November 9th, Algona hosted itself. Here 24 schools had the chance to qualify for Nationals if they were in the top four places. The team of Ace Studer, Izaha Crawmer, Brennan Kajewski, Chance Studer, and Waverly Espe were placed in the top three. This qualified them for Nationals.
With Nationals already solidified, the Quiz Bowl team went on December 7th for Spirit Lakes’ annual tournament. With two teams representing Algona, as the Bulldogs and the Varsity team, qualifying for playoffs. Through a tough and exciting lightning round of back and forth action, the Bulldogs luckily got 4th place.
In the spring, Quiz Bowl doesn't have many tournaments, being able to get a break before the big tournament, Nationals, in May. Algona High School Quiz Bowl will be going to New Orleans on May 25th and 26th or Chicago May 31st through June 1st! In the Big Easy, New Orleans, they would get to enjoy the rich music scene and vibrant, leisurely atmosphere. In Chicago, they would get to see Chicago’s beautiful architecture, like the Rookery building or theMART, and they get to experience amazing food, like the famous deep dish pizza and jibarito sandwiches. Brennan Kajewski states, “Golly I am hype. I want to see the KAYMarket in Chicago.”
All at Algona High School hope that the Quiz Bowl team enjoys their trip and has fun at Nationals. The Quiz Bowl team of course is grateful and welcoming of any kid who likes to volunteer to help read. If you would like to join the team, talk to Mr. Stein.
