The boys’ swim team regular season is nearing an end, they have been off to a rough start, at 0-14-1 due to the fact of low numbers on the team. In swim team, you are counted on points, which depends on how many swimmers you have in the events. The team, a Bishop Garrigan squad, consists of AHS members juniors, Colin Roberts, Owen Doocy, Axel Mortensen, and senior, Cadyn Samp.
The boys competed in the Fort Dodge Triangular on Thursday, January 16th. They tied for second with a score of 45 points. They all competed in the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle as well. Doocy competed in the 200 yard freestyle. Participants in the 100 yard backstroke include Mortensen, Doocy, and Samp. Roberts competed in the 100 yard breaststroke. Roberts participated In the 100 yard butterfly also. Doocy competed in the 200 yard individual medley.
Colin Roberts says, “It’s the only sport you get yelled at for breathing.”
With the boys’ most recent meet at Mason City on Tuesday, January 21st, they lost with a score of 48-116. They all competed in the 50 yard freestyle. Roberts finished with a time of 24.91, Mortensen with a time of 26.65, Samp with a time of 30.06, and Doocy with a time of 38.32. They all competed in the 100 yard freestyle as well. Roberts with a time of 56.24, Mortensen with a time of 1:00.41, Samp with a time of 1:13.91, and Doocy with a time of 1:20.23. Doocy competed in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 3:07.42. In the 100 yard backstroke, Mortensen finished with a time of 1:17.77, Doocy with a time of 1:41.44, and Samp with a time of 1:47.83. Roberts competed in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:10.35. In the 100 yard butterfly, Roberts had a time of 1:06.95. Doocy competed in the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 4:12.76.
Come out and support the boys’ swim team on Saturday, February 8th, 12:00 pm at Mason City High School for their IHSAA District meet.
