Twelve FFA members from Algona High School went to the 95th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. This was the first time attending an FFA National Convention for 11 of the members.
While there, four members competed in the Environmental and Natural Resources contest. Logan Lentz, Aidan Morris, Ian Fehr, and Reid Louwagie placed 16th and earned a silver rating at the national level!
On day two of the convention, eight Algona FFA members got to tour the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The FFA members were testing a hybrid race car, but they didn’t get to take the car for a spin on the track. Later in the day, they got to attend the Opening Session and a rodeo afterwards.
The Algona FFA members got to listen to Tamika Carchings, who was the keynote speaker. Catchings is a four time Olympic gold medalist and has many accomplishments in the WNBA. She encouraged all of the FFA members to evaluate what their horizon indicates and to be bold. She shared a great message to everyone who got to hear her speak.
The Environmental and Natural Resources team got to do their presentation while the other Algona FFA members got to tour the Ozark Fisheries. Later they got to go to workshops where they learned more about leadership opportunities, networking opportunities, developing a mentor, and how to improve personally.
Students had a lot of fun on the trip. One of the students who attended, Jacob Schutter, said, “The National Convention was so fun! It was cool meeting people from all different backgrounds from the states of Maine to Alaska.”
