On Saturday, October 1st, Algona will be celebrating their 74th Band Day Festival. The Algona High School band will be performing in the parade, at 1:00pm on East State Street, followed by their field show later that night at the Algona High School football field at 5:30pm.
There will be 13 different bands performing in the Algona Band Day parade, including middle school and high school bands. For class 1A, West Bend-Mallard, West Hancock, Bishop Garrigan Middle School, and Bishop Garrigan High School will perform. Then, performing in class 2A will be Cherokee, North Union, and Eagle Grove. Lastly, in class 3A Humboldt, Algona, and Webster City will perform.
Following the parade, Algona will hold their field show competition at Bulldog Stadium. They will start off by performing the National Anthem at 5:35, then classes 1A through 3A will begin to perform their shows. Starting off the competition at 5:45, class 1A, Bishop Garrigan, will perform. Next, in class 2A, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Cherokee Washington, and Lake Mills will hold their performances. Then, in class 3A, Sioux Center, Humboldt, Clear Lake, Estherville Lincoln Central, Le Mars, and Algona will be performing. Awards will be held after the bands have competed, at approximately 8:45.
Band Day has always been a popular festival since it started back in 1948, along with their addition of the field show. The Band Day festival gives Algona and many other bands a chance to participate in such an important and fun event. Mr. Rich said, “Band Day is a great Algona tradition and I hope it goes on forever.”
