The Algona Bulldogs’ football team opened their season with a 25-0 victory over the Emmetsburg E-Hawks on August 27th. Tyler Manske led the way with 256 passing yards and four touchdown passes. He also contributed 65 yards rushing on 11 attempts. Trevon Smith was Manske’s favorite target throughout the night, as Smith hauled in nine receptions for 118 yards and three touchdowns. On the defensive side, the leading tackler was Alex Manske with 6.5.
In week two, on September 3rd, the Algona Bulldogs got their 2nd victory, traveling to Clear Lake to take on the Lions. Manske was the leading rusher with 12 attempts for 83 yards and one touchdown. He also contributed 169 yards through the air and two touchdowns. Carlos Gomez had the most receiving yards with 65 on one catch that went for a touchdown. The leading tackler was Luke Carter with eight.
The Bulldogs were back in action last Friday, September 10th, as they hosted Garner Hayfield Ventura. Manske was 14 for 18 for 272 yards and three touchdowns. Smith was the leading receiver, catching seven balls for 125 yards and two touchdowns. Gomez had the most rushing yards with 86 on two carries and a touchdown. The leading tackler was Brandon Harris with 11.
This week, September 17th, the number 8 ranked Bulldogs travel to Boyden Hull Rock Valley to face the number 3 ranked NightHawks. Trevon Smith said, “Train like we must win, and play like we can’t lose.” It should be a fantastic game. The game starts at 7:00 and you can watch it online on BH Comets’ Youtube channel. On September 24th, the Bulldogs will host North Polk for Homecoming.
