The Algona Bulldogs were supposed to travel to Rockford on Tuesday, January 19th, but due to the icy roads and bad conditions, the meet was cancelled.

On Thursday, January 21, 2021, the Bulldogs traveled to Manson to wrestle a triangular against Humboldt and Manson. In the Manson dual, Hunter Penton, Riley Goche, Colby Jennings, Spencer Long, and Ian Fehr lost their matches. Jacob Zabka, Hayden Thompson, Reece Eakins, Evan Deal, Brandon Harris, Hunter Berry, Sam Reitz, Cohen Reffer, and Logan Meendering all won matches against Manson. The overall team score of the dual against Manson was 51-26 with the Algona Bulldogs winning.

For the Humboldt part of the dual, Ian Fehr, Reece Eakins, Evan Deal, Colby Jennings, Dane Kitzinger, Riley Goche, and Cohen Reffer all lost their matches. Jacob Zabka, Hunter Penton, Hayden Thompson, Brandon Harris, Hunter Berry, Spencer Long, and Logan Meendering all won matches against Humboldt. The overall team score against Humboldt was 34-39 with Humboldt winning.

On January 23, 2021, the Algona Bulldogs traveled to Webster for the NCC tournament. The teams there included: Clarion, Clear Lake, Hampton, Humboldt, Iowa Falls, and Saint Edmond. Individual results include: at 106 pounds, Zabka was runner-up; at 113, Fehr finished in 4th; at 126 pounds, Thompson placed 3rd; at 132, Eakins placed 5th; at 138, Deal placed 6th; at 145, Harris was runner-up; at 152, Jennings placed 6th; at 160, Goche placed 5th; at 170, Berry was runner-up; at 195, Long placed 4th; at 220, Reffer placed 5th; at 285, Meendering finished in 4th. The Bulldogs came in 5th in team points.

The Bulldogs hosted two home triangulars this week. On January 26, they hosted Belmond-Klemme and West Hancock. The Dogs beat Belmond 66 to 18 but came up short against West Hancock, 47 to 27. Some highlights of the night include pins from Eakins, Harris, Berry, O’Neall, and Long against Belmond. Berry also pinned his opponent from West Hancock while Harris won in a technical fall and Hunter Penton won in a major decision. 

On January 28th the Dogs hosted Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Central Springs. Again the Dogs split the night, beating Central Springs 51 to 21 but came up one point short against Hampton-Dumont, 36 to 37.

Next up, the Bulldogs travel to Spirit Lake on Saturday, February 6th, for Sectionals.
