A group of students from every grade, ninth through twelfth, were invited to attend the Night of Academic Excellence on Tuesday, March 25th. It will begin at 7:00 pm in the Ed and Betty Wilcox Performing Arts Center. During this event, students will walk across the stage and be given an award for their academic achievements. The requirements to qualify for this award differ for each grade. Freshman and sophomore students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher, while juniors and seniors are required to have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Luke Poeppe states, “I'm finally smart!” after being invited for the first time.
For this event, students are required to wear semi-formal outfits. For the girls, this may include dresses, skirts, or dress pants. For boys, dress pants and a polo shirt are expected.
National Honor Society inductees will also be recognized on this night. To be accepted, junior and senior students are required to have a 3.5 GPA, have completed at least 30 hours of community service, have filled out an application packet, as well as turned in two letters of recommendation. They must demonstrate that they meet the four pillars of NHS: academics, leadership, service, and character. Fourteen students will be inducted this year by the current NHS members. The guest speaker will be Dr. Rachel Venteicher.
The final group to be recognized on this night will be NCC All Conference Academic recipients. Five seniors were selected on the basis of their ACT score and their cumulative GPA. They are required to have a 26+ ACT score and a 3.5+ cumulative GPA.
Congratulations to all of the students who will be receiving honors!
