Kids always talk about classes that will help them later on in life. There is a class that helps with some of those important skills, and that class is workplace experience, taught by Mr. Connick.
The class teaches skills that will help you in finding a job, the skills to do well in that job, how to get a job, etc. Connick also goes over proper workplace soft skills and physical language and verbal language for the workplace. Some of the activities that the students do in class are mock interviews, work on resumes and cover letters, and then listen to podcasts every week and share them. Most of the podcasts are business owners discussing what they look for in employees.
A student in the class, Blake Grandgenett, states, “It is very valuable and smart to take this class.”
One of the main parts of the class is finding a job that you can shadow in order to learn and get some experience in the field itself. Earlier this year the students signed papers with the businesses that they wanted to job shadow and intern for.
After spring break, the students will go out and start their job shadowing, where they will shadow until the end of the school year. They will put the skills they learned to the test in real time in the workplace.
