You’ve heard the expression, “walk a mile in their shoes,” but these kids run actual miles in their shoes.
Last season, the boys’ Varsity team came in first place at the Links Public Golf Course in Webster City on the 3rd of September. On the 10th of September, the Varsity team came in 2nd place at the Estherville Golf Course. On the 17th of September, the team came in 6th place at Sunrise Pointe Golf Course in Storm Lake. The Varsity team then came in 2nd place at Joe Sheldon Country Park in Humboldt on September 23rd. Their final placing in September was 7th place at their home course, the Algona Country Club, on the 30th. On October 8th, they placed 3rd at Eagle Grove. The NCC meet was held on October 15th and the boys placed 3rd. At the State qualifying meet on Iowa State’s cross country course on the 23rd of October, the boys finished 6th as a team and Gavin Weber qualified individually for the State meet.
Gavin Weber ran against the state’s best on November 1st in Fort Dodge at the 2024 State Cross Country Meet. He placed 40th out of 134 athletes. Coach Waltz states, “The weather was perfect, and the race was electric. We loved the support from Algona High School and friends.”
The girls’ Varsity team came in 5th to start out the season on September 3rd at Webster City’s Links Public Golf Course.
