Bulldog basketball is halfway through their season. The girls are currently 8-3 and the boys have a record of 4-5.
The girls started their season off with three hard fought non-Conference games. The Bulldogs fell short to tough teams from Estherville Lincoln Central, Forest City, and later cross town rival, Bishop Garrigan. However, they bounced back quickly with big Conference wins over Clear Lake, St. Edmond, and Iowa Falls-Alden.
At the beginning of the boys’ season they fought hard but fell short to teams such as Forest City, St. Edmond, and Webster City. The Bulldogs came back and got big wins over Estherville Lincoln Central and Charles City.
On Tuesday, January 7th, the boys hosted Clarion-Goldfield-Dows. The boys came away with a 58-52 win. Leading scorer for the night was Ben Helmers with 25 points.
On Friday, January 10th, the boys and girls traveled to Hampton-Dumont-CAL. The girls had a huge victory over the previously undefeated Hampton Bulldogs with a score of 44-34. Hayden McLaughlin finished the night with 11 points and eight rebounds. “This has been an exciting season so far,” Casey VanOtterloo says about her senior season.
The boys swept up a victory over the Hampton Bulldogs with a win of 73-35. Helmers had 35 points on the night. Nathan Manske carried the rebounds with six while Jaxon Eischen had four assists. Evan Allie talks about his opinion on the season, “I have really enjoyed this season so far.”
The girls’ basketball team hosted non-Conference Fort Dodge High School at home on Monday, January 13th. This was a pick up game to make up for Clarion and Charles City not having Varsity girls’ basketball squads. The Bulldogs took the victory over the Dodgers 56-30. Leading scorer for the night was Hayden Kuhlmann with 17 points.
Tonight, January 17th, the boys and girls travel to Humboldt for more Conference action. The Lady Wildcats enter this game with an overall record of 7-5. Tip off is at 6:15 with the boys’ game to follow. The Humboldt boys’ basketball team enters this Conference game with an overall record of 6-4.
Next up for the Bulldogs, they host Spencer tomorrow, January 18th at home. Monday, January 20th the Bulldogs will host the Clear Lake Lions.
