The new fieldhouse and performance center is making progress. The construction began May 1st, 2024, and it is taking shape more and more every day thanks to ATURA Architecture and Kingland Constructions Services. ATURA also constructed the beautiful Athletic Fields Gateway. The building is predicted to be finished in July 2025 and is planned to be ready for next school year.
With the modern design, the building is constructed to include an indoor track with an elevated viewing area, which is great for practice and early-season track meets. Also included is a large weight room, great for all athletics provided at Algona High School. The layout of the main section of the building will have enough space for six basketball courts and six volleyball courts. Having such a large area that includes these courts will allow lots of room for athletes to practice, host tournaments, and hold youth athletics.
Beside the courts is an area for batting cages. Separated from the gym area is a wrestling room with enough space for four wrestling mats. The construction of this building will allow for growth not only for the athletes but also for the school. With the new building, more flexible practice times for middle and high school athletes to keep their practices on campus will be provided. Superintendent Mr. Carter states, “I am really excited about the building and the opportunities the building will have for the kids that they don’t have now.”
