Currently undefeated in duals, the Algona girls’ wrestling team has not gone unnoticed this season. The Bulldogs sent six wrestlers to State last year, three of which are returning members this season, and are optimistic to send even more to Coralville this year.
A few highlights of the season so far include placing ninth as a team, above many ranked teams, at the Dan Gable Donnybrook tournament in December. Mara Davis, Malyn Davis, Regan Jensen, and Reagan Haynes were individual placewinners.
Previously, in Mason City on November 26th, the girls took home seven top three finishers. They were Mara Davis, Eden Geddings, Lilly Allie, Sienna Fehr, Emmy Owen, Jensen, and Haynes.
The Bulldogs headed to a tough tournament last Saturday, January 11th, in Ogden and ended up placing 5th as a team, with two top three finishers. Haynes placed fourth and Laura Stohr placed second.
On January 31st, the girls will make the trip to East Buchanan to try and secure their spot in the State Championship, which will be held in Coralville on February 6th and 7th. Head coach Jake Adams says he's “excited for the opportunity to compete against some new teams we haven't seen all season.” Good luck, Bulldogs!
