The Algona boys have an opportunity to join a swim team this year. This year they are swimming with the Garrigan Bears boys’ swim team. Before this year, the boys have had to travel to Fort Dodge in order to participate on a school swim team.
AHS boys who are on the swim team are juniors, Colin Roberts, Axel Mortensen, and Owen Doocy. Senior, Caydn Samp, is also on the team.
The boys’ first meet was Tuesday, December 3rd. The team placed fourth overall with 234 points. In the 50 yard freestyle, Roberts had a time of 25.69, Mortensen had a time of 26..65, and Caydn Samp had a time of 30.06. In the 100 yard freestyle, Roberts had a time of 56.24 and Samp had 1:13.91. Doocy, in the 200 yard freestyle, had a time of 3:12.75. In the 100 yard backstroke, Mortensen had a time of 1:17.77, Doocy had a time of 1:41.44, and Samp had 1:47.83. In the 100 yard breaststroke, Roberts had a time of 1:10.48. Doocy, in the 200 yard individual medley, had a time of 4:12.76.
The boys’ last meet was at the Fort Dodge High School on Thursday, January 16th, at 5:30. Caydn Samp says, “Most people think swimming is terrible, but it’s pretty fun.”
Come out and be loud this coming Tuesday, January 21st, and support the boys’ swim team at 5:30 at the Mason City High School pool.
