The 2024 AHS girls’ swim team had a record-breaking season. Early in the season the girls came home with a dual win on the road against Perry. This was a record setting first win in ten years. The girls came home with two wins total on the season.
Many school records were broken this year for the first time in four or five years. Some of the records broken this year were Brooke Ludwig in the 100 back and Ella Welp in the 100 breast and 100 free. Both the 200 free relay and the 200 medley relay also broke school records. The free relay consisted of Hannah Dose, Natalee Reemstma, Brooke Ludwig, and Ella Welp. The medley relay consisted of Lydia Dose, Ludwig, Reemstma, and Welp.
The girls battled hard with thirteen meets on the season, traveling to Spencer, Perry, Carroll, Fort Dodge, and Mason City.
This year the team took one swimmer and one diver to State. On Thursday, November 7, 2024, Reese Taylor traveled to Johnston to compete in State diving. Taylor made it through to the final round and placed 10th overall. On Friday, November 8, Welp traveled to Marshalltown to compete in the 100 breaststroke at State. Welp was the first swimmer ever in Algona girls’ swim history to make it to State. According to Welp, “State was a great experience to have.”
The team graduated four seniors: Ludwig, Lydia Dose, Caitlin Louscher, and Madi Adams. The girls are looking forward to another great season in 2025!
