Fall was a busy time for the Algona FFA. October 22, 2024, had eleven members go to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana. While there, four members represented Iowa in the Forestry contest and finished 30th. Those members were Kara Rotert, Ace Studer, Tucker Brunsvold, and Grant Kramer. The Algona FFA Chapter was recognized with the 2 Star National Chapter Award, received by Harold Reynolds and Alissa Engel. While at the National Convention, past AHS graduate and Algona FFA member, Aidan Morris, earned his American Degree. Fewer than 1% of FFA members earn the highest degree.
On November 11, 2024, FFA members presented what they learned about and did at National Convention at that night’s school board meeting. They discussed the many activities they participated in at the National FFA Convention, like the expo and career fair, a tour of Beck's Hybrid Seed and Beasley's Orchard, and more.
At November 12th’s chapter meeting, they discussed community service projects. Adopt-A-Family, Ignite the Spirit, and purchasing Forestry Contest tools were topics covered. They also had a Thanksgiving meal.
On December 21, 2024, the Algona FFA chapter had the opportunity to help reduce the food insecurity in Kossuth. The Deb and Jeff Hansen Foundation awarded school-based organizations in their communities for four cases of pork loin and $500 to prepare for families in need or organize food baskets to distribute. The Algona FFA was one of the lucky participants. The chapter purchased non-perishable food items for 60 area families.
Next for the Algona FFA Chapter is on February 10th, five events will be competing in Forest City: Conduct of Meetings with Charli Dodds, Kaden Bormann, Emmet Bormann, Kieden Wingerson, Grady Ruger, Grandon Dahlhauser; the FFA Creed with Grace Luitjens; job interviews with Morgan Fraker; public speaking with Cassidy Bierstedt; and ag sales with Ace Studer. These students will be competing against other school districts in these events in Forest City.
