At the end of the 2023-2024 school year, Algona Community School District will say goodbye to a beloved long-time teacher. Jean Davis, Title I reading teacher at Lucia Wallace, will retire after 25 years of teaching in Algona.
Mrs. Davis graduated from Algona High School in 1983. After graduation, she attended Wartburg College for two years and then transferred to UNI, where she graduated in 1987.
Her first teaching job was teaching 3rd grade at Fulton School in Dubuque. She taught at Fulton for seven years, then switched to Fort Dodge for one year before coming to Algona.
While with Algona Community School District, Mrs. Davis has taught in four buildings: the old middle school, Bertha Godfrey, Bryant, and Lucia Wallace. “There are so many great memories,” Mrs. Davis comments. One memory that stands out to her is dancing on a table when a student reached a goal. Another one is Mrs. Carroll’s chicken eggs “stinking up the whole school.”
In retirement, Mrs. Davis plans to work somewhere part-time, spend time with family, and travel. Thank you for all you have done Mrs. Davis!
