On Friday, May 3rd, the AHS music department hosted the Large Group Festival, and on Tuesday, May 7th, they had their spring concert and awards ceremony. They’ve worked hard all year, and now it’s time to show it all off.
The AHS concert band and concert choir performed, along with other surrounding schools, for a rating at this year's 2024 Large Group Festival. The choir performed at 7:45 in the middle school gym, and the band performed at 9:15 in the performing arts center. The choir performed three selected pieces under the direction of Mr. H.U. and accompanied by Barb Foote. Under Mr. Liebl’s direction, the band performed two selected pieces.
Both groups had their last concert on Tuesday at 7:30 in the Wilcox Performing Arts Center. At their final concert, they performed the same music from their Large Group Festival as well as a couple additional pieces and small group performances/ensembles. Individuals were also recognized with awards and letters. The event was live streamed by the AHS Broadcasting Department on YouTube, where you can still check it out.
Senior, Aleena Rosacker, commented, “I’m so grateful to end the year with this amazing group of people and with a great teacher!”
After those two performances, the band and choir will play and sing at the commencement ceremony for AHS seniors on Sunday, May 19. The band will then play at the Memorial Day celebration on Monday, May 27th, in Whittemore.
To prepare for the Large Group Festival, the band and choir have both welcomed clinicians to the high school as well as the clinicians they met with in Nashville. They’ve been working on their pieces since January to learn and perfect them.
The band and choir students have had a busy year with marching band, All State, fall and winter concerts, honor bands and honor choirs, all school concerts, the Nashville trip, Solo and Ensemble festival, and now their last two big events.The band and choir have both had a phenomenal year.
A big congratulations to the seniors for all of their dedication put into the music department over their years here. Here comes the great big finale!
