On April 18th, the girls’ track team competed at Webster City. For the relay teams, the 4x100 placed fourth with a time of 53.56; runners were Lillian Allie, Kaitlyn Burns, Summer Thompson, and Natalie Johnson. The 4x200 relay finished fourth with a time of 1:54.00; runners were Allie, Thompson, Burns, and Johnson. The 4x400 team finished in fifth place with a time of 4:59.00; Maya Lentz, Burns, Charli Dodds, and Macy Knapp were the runners. The 800m relay team finished sixth with a time of 2:05.40; Aylee Herke, Haylie Ruehle, Kayla Buscher, and Danica VanGorkom competed for the girls in this event. The 1600m relay team placed fourth with a time of 4:56.15; the runners were Thompson, Lentz, Dodds, and Burns. The girls’ 4x800 team finished fourth with a time of 12:00.00; Andi Jensen, Dodds, Malyn Davis, and Knapp were the runners. The 4x100m hurdle team placed fourth with a time of 1:13:95; runners were Ashlyn Waldera, Sienna Fehr, Alyssa Engel, and Rachel Olson. In the individual events, Natalie Johnson brought home first place in the 100m dash with a winning time of 12.72. In the 100m hurdles, Ashlyn Waldera placed third with a time of 17.91. In the 200m dash, Natalie Johnson finished first with a time of 27.09, and Maya Lentz finished sixth with a time of 29.60. In the 400m, Malyn Davis finished fourth with a time of 1:09.50, and Haylie Ruehle finished fifth with a time of 1:11.30. The girls completed a clean sweep in the 800m dash with Mara Davis finishing second with a time of 2:39.88 and Macy Knapp winning the event with a time of 2:26.67. In the 1500m dash, Malyn Davis finished second with a time of 5:37.94. In field events, Reagan Haynes finished first in shot put with a throw of 34-10.00 and Ashley Cantu finished fourth with a throw of 31:9.75. In discus, Reagan Haynes finished first with a throw of 107-07 and Ashley Cantu finished right behind, in second, with a throw of 106-05. Summer Thompson took home second in long jump with a jump of 15-07.25. Madison Ehrig brought home high jump first place for the girls with a winning jump of 5-4 and Maya Lentz placed third with jump of 4-10.
On April 22nd, the girls competed at Humboldt. Starting with the girls’ relay teams, the 4x100 team placed first with a time of 52.4; runners were Lillian Allie, Kaitlyn Burns, Summer Thompson, and Natalie Johnson. The 4x200 relay finished first with a time of 1:50.60; runners were Allie, Thompson, Burns, and Johnson. The 4x400 team finished in second place with a time of 4:36.30; Haylie Ruehle, Sienna Fehr, Maya Lentz, and Malyn Davis were the runners. The 800m relay team finished seventh with a time of 2:10.50; Katie Hoover, Kayla Buscher, Haylie Ruehle, and Alyssa Engel competed for the girls in this event. The 1600m relay team placed second with a time of 4:33.3; the runners were Thompson, Knapp, Davis, and Burns. The girls’ 4x800 team finished first with a time of 10.15.3 Jensen, Dodds, Davis, and Knapp were the runners. The 4x100m hurdle team placed fourth with a time of 1:15:40; runners were Ashlyn Waldera, Sienna Fehr, Alyssa Engel, and Alyssa Miller. Moving to individual events, in the 100m dash, Maya Lentz finished fifth with a time of 14.4. In the 100m hurdles, Ashlyn Waldera finished third with a time of 17.3, and Alyssa Miller finished with a time of 17.9. In the 200m dash, Maya Lentz finished seventh with a time of 28.90. In the 400m, Andi Jensen finished fifth with a time of 1:04.5. In the 400m hurdles, Sienna Fehr placed fourth with a time of 1:14.8, and Andi Jensen finished sixth with a time of 1:14.9. In the 800m dash, Malyn Davis finished fourth with a time of 2:38.9 and Charli Dodds finished fifth with a time of 2:41. In the 1500m dash, Mara Davis finished first with a time of 5:22.70. Ending with field events, in shot put, Reagan Haynes finished fifth with a throw of 35-00.50. In discus, Reagan Haynes finished sixth with a throw of 104-10, and Ashley Cantu finished right behind, in seventh, with a throw of 103-04. Summer Thompson took home second in long jump with a jump of 15-20.25. Madison Ehrig brought home high jump first place for the girls with a winning jump of 5-2 and Maya Lentz placed second with jump of 4-10.
On April 22nd, the boys’ track team competed in Mason City. Starting with individual events, in the 100m dash, Will Weichert finished third with a time of 11.20, and Jack Limbaugh finished tenth with a time of 11.70. In the 200m dash, Evan Allie tied for third with a time of 23.80. In the 400m dash, Evan Allie finished second with a time of 51.73, and Ashton Moreno finished third with a time of 52.80. In the 800m dash, Gavin Weber finished fifth with a time of 2:09.26. In the 1600m, Gavin Weber finished second with a time of 4:46.79. In the 400m hurdles, Ryley Riggert placed seventh with a time of 1:04.54. Moving to relays, the 4x100 team placed second with a time of 43.37; runners were Weichert, Allie, Limbaugh, and Levi Walker. The 4x200 team placed sixth with a time of 1:40.95; runners were Allie, Weichert, Moreno, and Walker. The 4x400 relay team placed sixth with a time of 3:44.67; runners were Jace Mortensen, Joesph Ricklefs, Ashton Moreno, and Gavin Weber. The 4x800 relay team finished fifth with a time of 9:13.88; runners were Weber, Jace Mortensen, Joesph Ricklefs, and Breckin Bochardt. The 800m relay team finished first with a time of 1:39.12; runners were Weichert, Limbaugh, Allie, and Moreno. Moving to field events, in the long jump, Will Weichert finished fifth with a jump of 19-10.00, and Dawson Elsbecker finished sixth with a jump of 19-4.00. In the shot put, Max Nevitt finished third with a throw of 50-1.00, and Jack Limbaugh finished fourth with a throw of 47-10.00. In discus, Max Nevitt won with a throw of 135-10, and Shriji Patel finished in second with a throw of 131-11. The boys’ efforts would be good enough for fifth place finish as a team.
On April 23rd, the boys traveled to Emmetsburg to compete. In the 100m dash, Jack Limbaugh finished first with a time of 12:13. In the 800m dash, Joesph Ricklefs finished third with a time of 2:12.91. In the 1600m run, Gavin Weber finished first with a time of 4:41.75. In the 400m hurdles, Ryley Riggert placed seventh with a time of 1:04.54. Moving to relays, The 4x100 team placed first with a time of 44.03; runners were Weichert, Allie, Limbaugh, and Levi Walker. The 4x200 team placed fifth with a time of 1:40.21; runners were Allie, Weichert, Moreno, and Walker. The 4x400 relay team placed fourth with a time of 3:44.58; runners were Hoyt Crouch, Weber, Ricklefs, and Moreno. The 4x800 relay team finished second with a time of 9:30.65; runners were Weber, Jace Mortensen, Joesph Ricklefs, and Breckin Bochardt. The 800m relay team finished first with a time of 1:38.49; runners were Weichert, Limbaugh, Allie, and Moreno. In the 3200m run, Breckin Bochadt finished fourth with a time of 11:41.99. Moving to field events, in the long jump, Will Weichert finished second with a jump of 19-06.25, and Dawson Elsbecker finished third with a jump of 19-1.00. In the shot put, Max Nevitt finished third with a throw of 50-6.00, and Jack Limbaugh finished second with a throw of 47-0.50. In discus, Max Nevitt finished fifth with a throw of 129-04, and Shriji Patel finished first with a throw of 141-00. The boys’ efforts would push them to a second place finish.
Drake Relays are considered one of the top track events in the country, and Algona girls’ and boys’ teams had qualifiers this year. Both the girls’ and boys’ 4x100 teams qualified, as well as Max Nevitt in shot put and Madison Ehrig in high jump. Max Nevitt placed 15th at Drake with a throw of 49-3.25. Madison Ehrig placed 15th in high jump with a jump of 5-1.The girls’ 4x100m relay finished 60th with a season best time of 51.42; runners were Lilly Allie, Kaitlyn Burns, Summer Thompson, and Natalie Johnson. The boys’ 4x100 team placed 26th, with a new school record time of 43.38; runners were Will Weichert, Levi Walker, Jack Limbaugh, and Evan Allie.
The boys’ and girls’ teams now prepare for their Conference and District meets. The boys’ track team has the NCC championship meet on Thursday, May 2, in Clarion. The girls’ NCC championship meet is also on Thursday, May 2, in Hampton. Next, the boys and girls compete at Districts on May 9th in Clear Lake.
