In 2015 Ed and Betty Wilcox approached the Algona School Board with an opportunity to begin development of a performing arts center with a very generous gift of $5 million. This was followed by additional donations from the Ken & Vickie Kemna family, Pharmacists Mutual, Iowa State Bank, the Algona Community School Foundation, and the Algona Community School Foundation.

Completion of the Wilcox Performing Arts Center was celebrated with a Grand Opening Concert on January 22, 2017 featuring the Algona & Bishop Garrigan High School bands and choirs.

It was the intent of Mr. & Mrs. Wilcox that the Performing Arts Center be used by not only the school district, but Bishop Garrigan and Seton as well as the community at large.
