The Algona volleyball team has been hard at work this season.  Alessandra Rizzo, a Junior Varsity player, says, “We work together more as a team than we did at the beginning and that’s helping us out a lot more.”

The girls travelled to Spencer for a tournament on Saturday, September 14th. They came away 3-2 on the day. They beat Spencer with the final record of 2-0 in favor of the Bulldogs. Abbey Holmes took the lead in kills during this game with a total of nine followed by Molly McCauley with a total of seven. They also beat Mason City 2-0 and Cherokee Washington 2-1. They lost to Humboldt and Carroll 0-2.

On Tuesday, September 17th, the girls travelled to Clear Lake to take on the Lions. The girls won in three quite easily, 25-14, 25-21, and 25-18. Leading in kills was Abbey Holmes with 16, followed by Molly McCauley with 13.

The Bulldogs played a tournament at Forest City High School on Saturday, September 21st and finished the day 3-2. They won against Hampton Dumont Cal with a final record of 2-0. They also won against Saint Ansgar with a final record of 2-1. The girls fought hard against both Clear Lake and Lake Mills but they fell to both with a final record of 0-2. After that they made their way back and defeated Spencer with a final record of 2-0.

The Algona volleyball team played September 24th in a home triangular against Clarion Goldfield Dows and Pocahontas Area. The girls defeated Pocahontas in two, 25-17 and 25-11. They put up a tough fight against a strong Clarion team but ended up losing 1-2 with scores 25-23, 14-25, and 14-16.
