After weeks of practicing and hard work, finally the crew and the cast performed the musical Seussical on Saturday, November 2nd, and Sunday, November 3rd, at the Performing Arts Center. They also performed on that Friday, November 1st, in the morning for the nursing home residents and in the afternoon they performed the first act for the elementary school students.

The main characters of the fall musical included the Cat in the Hat, Horton, Jojo, the Grinch, Mayzie, Gertrude, and the General. This musical had a large cast, including cadets, Whos, the mayor and his wife, bird girls, and jungle creatures, for a total of 45 kids.

A lot of people came to support the theatre department and students; both shows were very well attended and the show was a success. “I’m really happy and proud of all of the kids; they had two perfect performances,” says director Mrs. Zuetlau.

Also at the performance was two judges from the Iowa High School Musical Theatre Award Association from the Des Moines Performing Arts Center. They watch high school productions and give out awards for the whole state. AHS will know the results from these judges in the following weeks.

The next performance for the theatre department is a play in the spring. However,  next week starts large group speech, which will showcase a lot of students who were in the musical. Large group speech is open to anyone, so if you are interested, you can contact Mrs. Zuetlau.
