If students were to be asked what Model UN was, most would probably not be able to answer exactly what it is. Model UN is a fun extracurricular activity to be involved in. It’s where students research international issues and write a paper on it from the United States’ perspective. In the spring they write about the same topic from a different country’s perspective and then meet with delegates, who are students from other schools representing those countries.
Algona High School’s Model UN team attended the North Central Iowa Regional Conference at NIACC on Thursday, September 12th. The members of the team include: Ava Roach, Olivia Frankl, Joanna Fullerton, Faith Huber, Ryan Merrill, Rylee Krowiorz, Dylan Berte, Conner Olmstead, AJ Simons, Luke Huber, and Mihir Modi. While at this conference, Ava Roach and Luke Huber were named as outstanding delegates. Ryan Merrill, Rylee Krowiorz, AJ Simons, and Mihir Modi were named as alternatives.
If you see any of these students, be sure to congratulate them on their performance. Their next competition will be in the Iowa Youth Symposium at the State Capitol on October 22nd and 23rd.
