An exciting new team has recently entered Algona High School. If you haven’t heard yet, girls’ wrestling is officially an AHS club! The girls’ wrestling team is going to be coached by Tong Uk Yi and Nick Kuecker this year. The season will start on November 11th, overlapping with the basketball season. Since girls’ wrestling is considered a club, girls are still allowed to participate in both sports.

The members who have shown a committed interest thus far include seniors Aliyah Buscher, Sydney Hoover, and Maddie McPeak and freshman Eliza Schultz.  “Never look your opponent in the eyes, you will end up giggling,” stated Sydney Hoover after her first wrestling practice. As of right now, the girls practice about twice a week, whenever they are free.

The girls’ wrestling team is still looking for more members to join the team. If you are interested or think you might be interested in girls’ wrestling, make sure to talk to coach Yi or coach Kuecker.
